Species: HURLBUTITE Locality: Chandlers Mill, Newport, NH (Type Locality) Specimen Size: 4 mm crystal pair on matrix, three views, front, side, top, crystal drawing, annotated side view, and over-all specimen. Field Collected: Phillip Foster ? Catalog No.: Phillip Foster collection Notes: The crystal form of this specimen is an excellent match for the one illustrated in the American Mineralogist V37 (1952) article "Hurlbutite CaBe2(PO4)2 A New Mineral" by M. Mrose. The color and luster of small hurlbutite crystals like this one are very difficult to distinguish from feldspar in mine dump material. Note, particularly, last photo, hurlbutite crystals at top, right. |
