The rough surface of many pseudo-cubic goyazite crystals are actually an array of lustrous aligned faces that strongly reflect light at the right incident angle. This affect is present on two of the small crystals on this photograph.

Francis Maloney was the founder of the Gilsum Rock Swap and the postmaster of Gilsum, NH for many years. He reportedly owned several mines in the Gilsum-Alstead area and had a modest sized collection of specimens from area pegmatite localities.
