Species: ANATASE Locality: N. Sugarloaf Mtn., Bethlehem, NH Specimen Size: 0.3 mm blocky anatase crystal on albite Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u271 Notes: Whittemore and Janules stated in their Jul/Aug 1990 Rocks & Minerals article on this North Sugarloaf locality: "Black, lustrous, blocky, almost cubic crystals (associated with albite and microcline) that have been observed in a few samples have also been identified as anatase by X-ray defraction studies." This is a typical example of that habit. |

Species: ANATASE Locality: Mine Falls Park, Nashua, NH Specimen Size: 1 mm anatase crystal. Field Collected: Scott Whittemore Catalog No.: Notes: It is difficult to avoid some "washed-out" appearance with these dark blue crystals on a bright reflective background. |

Species: ANATASE Locality: Junct. Rt. 101A - Exit 8 (Hampton Inn site - former Ground Round), blasted ledge, Nashua, NH Specimen Size: Two pale tan anatase crystals in quartz crystal seam. Largest crystal is 0.7 mm. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer (Aug 2008) Catalog No.: u916 Notes: This 4 cm specimen contains a half-dozen anatase crystals. Of the many quartz seam specimens brought home, this was the only one found with anatase. These anatase crystals contrast poorly with the matrix. They are difficult to spot. Field collected specimens must be thoroughly cleaned prior to looking for the anatase crystals. The host phyllite rock formation at this site is the same to be seen at other near-by anatase localities, namely Mine Falls Park and the Audley Quarry. |
